National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is just around the corner. In honor of this day, we’ll explore some Pet Startups that are gaining traction and finding success.
Every April 30, thousands of animal shelters across the United States join in the celebration by promoting shelter pet adoption. The unofficial holiday was created to increase the public awareness on the number of animals that are awaiting adoption.
Certain startups, however, are not waiting for April 30 to come so they can help animals. These Pet Startups are making a niche in the pet sector, from providing services such as live chat for pets and their owners, to products like a litter box that can detect health problems in pets.
Here are some of the startups making their mark in the pet sector:
PetChatz is a pet-friendly camera that pet parents can use to check on their dogs or cats while they are away from home. It’s not your ordinary video camera, as it is designed to be small and chew-resistant. It is also a low-profile unit that won’t distract or catch the attention of animals. The camera also connects easily to a computer, smartphone, and tablet. It lets owners chat with their pets.
It also features a scent diffusion that can calm anxious pets, as well as a treat dispensing function. It even lets owners record the antics of their pets while monitoring their furry friends.
Imagine a litter box that can transform in color to indicate that there’s something wrong with your cat’s health. This is what Pretty Litter is all about.
Pretty Litter is a dust-free, lightweight, eco-friendly, and highly absorbent cat litter. But the quality that really stands out is its ability to change color if it detects abnormalities in the cat’s urine.
According to company founder, Carla Martinetti, changes in the color of the cat’s litter can be indicative of ill health in felines.
Vet On Demand
This app’s name pretty much suggests what it does- it allows pet owners to have live consultations with veterinarians. This is the first tele health app for pets to hit the market. The app was founded by two brothers—Curt and Mason Revelette. The two thought of putting up such venture after their 200 pound Labrador retriever got sick, and they had a difficult time enlisting the services of a veterinarian on short notice.
The company was first known for its mattresses for humans. But now, the New York City-based firm Casper has also introduced a new line of mattresses for dogs. The mattresses vary in size from small to large, with prices ranging from $125 to $225.
Finally, TurboPup first gained national prominence when it was entered into the reality TV show Shark Tank. The business, founded by former Air Force veteran Kristina Guerrero, develops and markets a complete meal replacement packed with vitamins and nutrients for dogs of all ages. After its exposure in Shark Tank, TurboPup was then made available in more than 700 PetSmart stores across the United States and Canada.
These and a growing number of Pet Startups are making a mark in the US pet sector which isn’t surprising considering that the said market is estimated to be worth more than $61 billion.
